Lure Course

Dogs chase fast-moving lures through courses showcasing speed, agility, instinct.

ENTER THE COURSE

The dog is brought to the starting line while a mechanical lure is positioned at the beginning of the course.
RELEASE ON SIGNAL

Once the course is clear and the lure begins moving, the handler releases the dog to start the chase.
FOLLOW THE ROUTE

The dog pursues the lure through a planned series of straightaways, turns, and changes in direction.
COMPLETE THE RUN

The run ends when the dog reaches the finish. Results may be based on time, completion, or judged performance.

How it works

Lure course recreates the movement of fleeing prey in a safe, controlled setting. Dogs follow a mechanical lure around an open course while demonstrating speed, agility, focus, and endurance. Rules and scoring can vary by event format.

THE BULLY MAX FACILITY

At the point in time Bully Max does not have a Lure Course at the Bully Max Facility. There has been discussion of building one soon. You can see our Lure Course content above when we capture it on the road at local competitions around the country.

Why Lure Course?

Lure course gives dogs a safe and structured way to express their natural instinct to chase. The moving lure encourages them to run, turn, accelerate, and stay focused throughout the course.
The sport challenges speed, agility, coordination, and endurance while providing valuable mental stimulation. Courses can be adapted to suit dogs with different sizes, abilities, and levels of experience.
Lure course is approachable for newcomers and exciting for experienced competitors. Local events offer an opportunity to meet other dog owners, learn about the sport, and discover what your dog enjoys.

TIPS FOR GETTING STARTED

Begin by attending a local trial, practice, or fun run. These beginner-friendly events allow your dog to experience the lure in a controlled environment without the pressure of formal competition.
Introduce the lure at a short distance and encourage your dog to follow it. Keep early runs simple and rewarding before progressing to longer courses with faster turns and changes in direction.
Make sure your dog is healthy enough for high-speed running and warm them up before each attempt. Use a secure collar or harness, follow event instructions, and allow time to cool down afterward.
