How to Train Your Dog to Wall Jump and Run Up Walls

Training your dog to wall jump and run up walls is a fun way to boost athletic drive, timing, and confidence.

Bully Max sponsored Hollie Wolanski shares some pro tips.

How to Train Your Dog to Wall Jump and Run Up Walls

1. Drive Isn’t Built on Walls

Start with games like spring poles or tug-of-war. These activities increase motivation and prepare your dog for wall jumps.

2. Start Low and Gradual

Begin with a low ramp or small platform. Slanted surfaces indoors help your dog learn the correct form. This prepares them for higher walls later.

3. Train Upward Focus

Hold a toy or treat above your dog and say “Up!” or “Climb!” This gets them to jump up. Reward every attempt, even small hops, and gradually raise the target height.

4. Build Confidence Before Height

Only increase height when your dog is comfortable with low climbs. Use surfaces with good grip, like rubber or turf, and support your dog during practice.

5. Consistency and Safety

Keep training short, fun, and rewarding. Warm up first and watch for signs of strain, especially in the joints. Not every dog will jump high, but most can enjoy learning new skills.
