Built to Work: Travis & Kassidy Torrez and PresaMania's Presa Canarios

Some kennels breed Presa Canarios to look tough. PresaMania breeds them to work. Travis and Kassidy Torrez run PresaMania Kennels out of Canyon Lake, Texas, and their dogs prove it on the track: a Most Weight Pulled title at the ADBA Nationals, a 16,884-pound final pull, and a 19,834-pound run on a UPF track. They are official Bully Max Sports handlers, and this is their story.

Meet Travis and Kassidy Torrez

Travis is the owner and lead trainer at PresaMania Kennels. He has spent years developing working-line Presa Canarios with a focus on strength, conditioning, obedience, weight pull and overall performance. His dogs aren’t bred for appearance alone. They’re trained and conditioned to work.

Kassidy has been training dogs since 2008, with a focus on personal protection and working dogs. She got into Presa Canarios in 2014, drawn to the breed’s versatility, athleticism and loyalty. After she married Travis in 2020, she brought her breeding program into PresaMania. She also has a soft spot for American Hairless Terriers and helps new handlers find their way into working dog sports through mentorship and hands-on experience.

Watch: Bully Max Sports Ep. 9, Lone Star Legends

Episode 9 of the Bully Max Sports series takes a three-stop road trip across Texas. The final stop is a training compound in San Antonio, where Travis and Kassidy break down how a dog’s structure drives its performance. Swimming, drag work, treadmill conditioning and varied routines all play a role in building durable dogs without burning them out.

Texas Presa Canario Breeders With a Working Standard

Kassidy’s standard is simple. Every dog should be capable of doing the job it was originally bred to do. That could mean protection sports, pulling weight, or being a confident, dependable family companion. Preserving purpose sits at the center of the program.

That’s why PresaMania puts its dogs to work in competition. Responsible breeding, training and competition all feed the same goal: versatile working Presa Canarios. As Ep. 9 puts it, conformation and athletic ability are linked. Structure directly impacts performance in demanding sports like weight pull.

Presa Canario Weight Pull: Amarillo Wins Most Weight Pulled at the ADBA Nationals

Amarillo brought the power to the ADBA Nationals and took home the title for Most Weight Pulled. The trophy came from the host club, the Salt Lake Terrier Association.

On the way home, the crew stopped in Moab, Utah, for a little victory lap and some pictures with the hardware. In PresaMania’s words: “This dog is built to work.”

Wendy: 16,884 Pounds on Her Final Official Pull

In November 2025, Wendy stepped into the harness for her final official weight pull at the UPF-sanctioned Bully Max Weight Pull II in Pittsburgh, PA. She moved 16,884 pounds down the track. No excuses. She left nothing on the table.

That pull put Wendy at No. 3 in the Bully Max Sports Top 10 Weight Pulls. PresaMania also brought Wendy to the UPF National Weight Pull and Triple Crown Championships in McPherson, Kansas, featured in Bully Max Sports Ep. 7: UPF Nationals. See the full Pittsburgh event in Ep. 8: UPF Bully Max Weight Pull II.

19,834 Pounds: Hamilton and Amarillo on the UPF Track

PresaMania kept stacking results. At a UPF event, Hamilton and Amarillo put up a 19,834-pound pull, released on the Bully Max channel as “World Record Pull: PresaMania Hamilton & Amarillo pull 19,834 pounds.” Every pull like that is built on countless hours of training, consistency and trust between dog and handler.

How PresaMania Conditions a Working Dog

Travis enjoys watching a dog develop through consistent training, proper nutrition and conditioning. He’s always learning and testing new methods to bring out the best in every dog. In Ep. 9, the PresaMania program leans on variety:

Heavy conditioning blocks can make it hard to keep weight on. Liquid Weight Gainer is one of Travis’s top three picks for adding calories without bigger meals.

Advice for New Handlers, in Their Own Words

Thinking about getting into dog sports? Here’s what Travis and Kassidy tell new handlers.

Travis Torrez

Start with a good dog, but understand that genetics are only part of the equation. Find a sport that you and your dog enjoy and learn the rules before you start competing. Don’t rush the process. Build your dog’s foundation, conditioning and confidence gradually, and pay attention to recovery just as much as the work itself. Nutrition makes a huge difference, especially with performance dogs, but it has to go hand-in-hand with proper training and conditioning. Most importantly, be consistent. You don’t build a competition dog in a few weeks. Put the work in, learn from every competition, and enjoy the journey with your dog.

Kassidy Torrez

Find a mentor and enjoy the learning process. Every accomplished working dog begins with a strong foundation of obedience, engagement, and trust. Focus on building the relationship with your dog before chasing titles. Ask questions, attend events, volunteer, and never stop learning from those with more experience. Dog sports aren’t just about winning. They’re about building a partnership that allows both you and your dog to reach your full potential.
